At least I have the Summer of 73

Greenidge and Richards, catches win matches (featuring the same players) "young" Peter Sainsbury and his second career Championship win and Mottram and Herman, possibly the least promising opening bowlers to win the competition.

We have been reasonably successful in 40, 50 and 55 over cricket and more recently in T20 and I went to the first few Lords finals, but as with Dubs and Test cricket, it is the Championship which is the real game and prize.

The equivalent of Coventry in 85 is Worcs in 74 just winning by a very small margin after Yorkshire (playing the role of Everton) refused to play a single innings match at Bournemouth after 2 days of rain.

My natural pessimism tells me we will win more matches than Surrey but lose out and the difference will be the rained off last day v Lancs at Southampton. Go on, Hampshire, prove me wrong.
