Wasn't quite so much Sky money washing around back then. The real big money came in the season after we were relegated ... The distribution changed then as well - previously TV money had been more equitably distributed across the whole Football League, but after the Sky renewal most went to the Premier League. It's been said before, but it was the worst season to get relegated (and not go straight back up)
