Didn't say I worked in publishing
But I did edit a small-run magazine for over a decade until I stepped back last year, the in-house design and print guys had mainly bailed from print media (more so in recent years).
We've also been through at least six rebrandings in this manner since I worked here and so also know the agonising that goes on around it.
They've done a decent job on the badge, I don't doubt that a lot of time and effort has gone into the whole thing.
The font would only seem to be suitable for large scale use as it's not terribly readable (and I doubt would meet accessibility criteria).
In my personal opinion the font seems to be trying to tap into the retro look stuff that's been popular in the last decade, but which designers are already moving on from. Nice concept, hard to see that it'll have much longevity, and the weave theme seems to have been plucked from focus groupthink.
Admittedly my last experience of having to action a group defined project outline like this was when I did a one-man job designing a logo/website/letterheads and literature style for an organisation while I was at uni 25years ago.
They're still using my work, after a few rebrands, which I like to think means I didn't muss it up entirely.
