Isn't this buying players to do nothing argument a bit

ridiculous?

What difference does it make? If someone signs a three-year contract it will be worth, say, ?1.5m (?10k a week roughly) from May 10 2006 to May 10 2009.

The amount of the contract is therefore fixed for three years, which includes three full season of football, at the end of which you either renew or release the player.

What difference is make if the period is July 30 2006 to July 30 2009. It still covers three full football seasons and is fixed at ?1.5million.

So surely that's a ludicrous argument to make an excuse for an annual indolence in the transfer market.
