Say you were driving for four years with no insurance before you were caught. You get caught and the police give you a ?300 fine and 3 points.

Not bad considering you have saved yourself ? 2000 in insurance premiums over the past 4 years?

OK if you had an accident you would get no pay out, but how often do you get a payout to the value of you car (after excess) anyway? How hard is it to get the payment? It can take years.

Also if your car is a piece of s**t and only worth ?300 and the companies want at leat ?500 to insure, and you have a small knock, settle out of insurance, you may lose out slightly, but again over the course of a few years you would have saved money.
