At the expense of short term / mid term damage. Does that sound odd?
Someone with unchallenged power finds himself vulnerable? Finds himself in a situation he can't control. Terminal cancer = a fight he can't win. Thinks about what he has accomplished in life and what he can do in his remaining time?
