Wrath of the Poets... a little something...

Years old, written a few months after my dad passed away...

I Wasn’t There

I wasn’t there that time you left,
“Not a surprise”, I know you’d say.
All the same I wished I was,
There to say goodbye that day.

I wasn’t listening when you talked,
“You never listen boy”, you’d say.
I wish I’d listened whilst I could,
Too late now, you’ve gone away.

We never really spoke, did we?
Grunts and moans were all I’d say.
You were quick to give me the blame,
Arguing was our normal way.

I lost the chance that time you left,
Wish I’d told you before that day.
But I always loved you, even if,
I was never man enough to say.

No more shouting, no more blame,
Strange that I should feel this way,
I wish that we still had the time,
To argue, just once more, one day.
