VAR is being used the wrong way round

With all the 21st century technology now to hand at Stockley Park, why do we let the on-pitch ref still have the final say ? He sees it only once, from one angle, and in real time. The on-pitch ref should blow if he thinks it could possibly be a red card or pen. Then the VAR ref can use all his tech to decide. It was madness to say VAR must be used only to correct a clear and obvious error - and look at the mess it's got us into. Using that as the yardstick , was in effect setting a noose by which the game has hung itself.

If you let the VAR ref have the last word, it should also stop the on pitch ref being harassed during and at the end of games by animated managers. They can just be told that if they have a gripe, go drive to Stockley Park and take it up there ( if the VAR ref hasn't already gone home). This would also take away the delays caused by asking the on-pitch ref to go look at a monitor.

Does anyone else watch snooker ? Sometimes the cue ball has to be replaced after a foul stroke, and the ref uses a colleague with a screen to get the ball back to where it was. When doing this, the ref would never say, sorry, but I don;t think the screen monitor shows the right position.

The other thing ruining the game every week is the penalty kick itself. Whether or not one is awarded has become a lottery, and players get cleverer every season in conning refs. Although radical, the solution is to abolish the penalty kick in football. I'm working on a plan as to how that can be done without causing injustice, and I'll post separately about it ( and it's another thing that would help consistent reffing, you must admit).
