As a boy my dad used to cycle to what is now Southampton Airport

to watch them testing the prototypes. Supermarine were a Southampton firm and there is a Mitchell Museum aka Solent Sky near the docks which includes a Spit and one of the Schneider Trophy planes (which when I was a kid was on display at the Royal Pier).

There has been talk for years of putting a memorial on the waterfront, probably a Spit in flight, looking like a giant Airfix model in the artist's impressions).
