would this work in F1, to get rid of the safety car.
Give the cars batteries, a starter motor and electric fans and put red /green lights all round the track Then instead of safety car the put the red lights on, drivers have 5 seconds to stop. They all have GPS so tracking is easy. The use the fans to keep cars from overheating after switching off engines. A quick check of GPS makers sure all the cars are in the right place (i.e. no one sneaked forward). Then when all clear green light flashes to say start engine and then goes off and they race again. Yes, the teams will have to adapt but if any sport can adapt it is F1, they have such brilliant engineers. yes, tyres go cold so drivers have to adapt again they are brilliant so can adapt.
Then drivers are in the correct relative position for the restart.
I'm sure there would be queries and questions!
