as they've been told, and "collectively" - more so than might have been predicted i suppose. Masks and distancing is different again - I suspect people think vaccines are available - get one if you want to be protected; they're not wholly convinced by masks in particular; & they simply don't want to carry on living "distanced" lives for ever - the risks now are outweighed by the desire for normality - it's "living with it"
