I would have felt the same way about a Lampard appointment
Experience in the game, but clearly never going to be a mid to long-term marriage between the manager and the club.
I'm extremely disappointed that DF has gone but relieved that we haven't ended up with a 'personality' who will dominate discussions about the club.
Looks like Smith has dug-in in the past and worked with a variety of situations from no funding to adequate funding with a degree of understated success.
