I don’t get that argument

Decent managers are not unemployed for long so any list of potential managers would at any point largely include mangers employed. Who is to say that the list from a month ago didn’t have smith on it high up. Clearly lots of managers could do a good job and it was fortunate smith became available at the same time.

What exactly is a mess? Also you take what is available. How is the fact he is available make him any less desirable. Most managers get sacked at some point and the villa sacking was ridiculous in my opinion.
