Alternatively, why Lampard?

You can ignore what he did at Chelsea, because he had one of the very best squads in the league. We have just dumped a manager who had twice demonstrated himself to be bloody awesome when given one of the best squads in the league. But he couldn't cope when given one of the weakest. What evidence do we have that Lampard could cope with that situation? He's never been in anything remotely like it (even, I suspect when playing)
