I would love to share that optimism
But my recollection is that we didn't improve a great deal in that first season, we relied on Maddison to see us through.
Lots of scrappy 1-0 wins after a bit of Madders magic.
The turning point after a scratchy start to the following season came from sticking Buendia in the team.
My concern therefore, is that given we've got what we've got, I struggle to see that there is some as yet untried formation or combination of players that will suddenly transform our fortunes.
