It's quite an interesting read, conceptually. I reckon you'd enjoy it.
Also, completely agree about LOTR, thought they did a great job, but then flubbed the end... The whole point of the saga was little people going to fight someone else's war, getting damaged and returning to the home they had idealised and had assumed that they had saved only to find that it was beggared too.
Such a shame that they skimmed that.
