4-4-2 it's gotta be

We can't play Earnie on his up there, considering how many teams in this league have big strong centre-backs he won't have a chance. Also we need Leon up front to hassle the defenders into mistakes.

Which leaves us without a "big man" but if we had a midfield and defence capable of PASSING the ball forwards rather than back, back, back, HOOF then it wouldn't matter.

I would personally go with:

Green

New RB Shackell Doherty Drury

McVeigh Safri Etuhu Huckerby

McKenzie Earnshaw

A little old-style, true, but it plays to our strengths if we could get Safri fit and get the ball to him to play in behind the defence (NOT over the top) and Etuhu making forward runs like Francis used to.

And with McVeigh and Huckerby, we've got 2 players who could easily play in a "floating" role behind the front 2 when necessary, which would pull defenders out of position, allowing the full-backs to get forward.

Speaking of which, Drury seems to have got much better at the recently, which is good. And we need a new right-back, my vote would be for Danny Senda (sp?) at Wycombe, very quick, scores goals and can cross very well.

And we would obviously need another one or 2 top midfielders to cover for Safri etc, and definitely a proper right winger for when McVeigh can't be bothered. Other than those days, McVeigh must be in the team as he's our best player.
