Last time we were up we didn't change enough, this time we've changed too much too quickly

That seems to be the essence of our problem, combined with a tough start and the lack of pre-season. Now we are trying to find a system that works whilst low on confidence.

It is notable that Brentford have played almost the same team for every game this season and many of the teams we play have well drilled players and systems. We should have probably started the season with the 4231 double pivot with may of the team from last year and then integrated players as we went along in a more evolutonary way, changing systems once we had worked on them in practice and with settled players. The switch to 433 seemed primarily designed to integrate Gilmour which was a big risk to make that has backfired. It is a brutal leage in which to be experimenting and bedding in players.

I don't think we are as bad as many fans seem to believe but the biggest issue now is probably the lack of self-belief. That can be hard to get back.

PS watching MOTD illustrated that other teams let in crap goals too, including Ajer getting outjumped by the diminutive Jota.
