The problem is much less Farke, or Webber, or even the players, than the model itself
But then, that's if we consider being a yo-yo club which goes from the sublime to the ridiculous and back again a 'problem'. In many ways, it's not; we've done brilliantly over the last dozen years for the most part.
It can't go on forever. We're much, much more a Championship than a Premier League club. But the ownership means we have an automatic glass ceiling.
I've often thought our location is a major problem in signing quality players. See also, in a much more extreme way, our historic twin club, Sunderland. Players don't want to be there, so they've often ended up paying way over the odds for complete mercenaries.
I also think our approach to agents is simultaneously exactly right... but again, it screws our chances at Prem level.
It all depends on what you want. A community club with its heart and soul very much in the right place but which will never establish itself in the top flight (and has been getting further and further away from doing so ever since Lambert left)? Or take a wild gamble and turn into Leicester or more realistically, Southampton if it works out; Derby or, even worse, Ipswich if it doesn't.
A gamble which the fans would have no say or control over. That's modern football sadly. And if you then look at the likes of Brentford, who are doing magnificently... it won't last. They'll be back down too before long. Virtually every side who come up go back down in the end.
It's sad... but it is what it is I'm afraid. That I still favour the status quo despite having lost 16 Premier League games in a row and despite us likely turning into a national laughing stock all season is its own comment on how futile it all is.
