I have two strong Royal memories - one of being taken there for a friend's birthday meal out when I was about 7 or 8, and the other from the early 80s of dropping in there for a late beer because it was one of the few places open and spotting our rather pretty neighbour with a man who was definitely not her husband. I reported this to my parents who scoffed at me. She moved out of the marital home the next week.
