iPod help required....

I have an iPod mini, but I can't get it to work properly. When I plug it in to my laptop, the "Do not disconnect" screen comes up, but iTunes doesn't recognise that its there. The computer seems to recognise it, it shows the the i drive is there when I go into my computer, but I can't access that drive.

Any one got any ideas? I tried the iPod trouble shooting page, with no luck.
