It does get easier, I promise
The one year anniversary of my dad’s death is next Saturday. I will find it hard, especially as he was the reason I support City and football was one of the things that always brought us together.
I thought when he died that my relationship with football would change. I feared my interest would wane, or it would just not be the same without him. I wrote a piece for MFW about it a few weeks after he passed away. As it turned out, in some ways my relationship with NCFC just got stronger. My brother has put me in charge of making sure my niece and nephew become fans (hence both have shirts, which they love) and I now chat with more of my distant Norfolk relatives (dad’s cousins) more about football.
I struggled with the grief in the autumn, but it has got easier. I still think about Dad every day, but positively - I remember the great person he was, his love of life, and everything he did for me. Next Saturday will be tough, but he will be at Carrow Road in spirit - and there’s now a brick dedicated to him on the south stand. I think he would have appreciated that.
Hang in there Dubs.
