I think Southgate tried, but we just don't have that kind of player
I remember he tried both Winks and Barkley in that role quite a lot, but neither were good enough.
There's no way Maddison or Foden could go from playing as a no.10 for their clubs, to playing like Jorginho in just a few training sessions with England.
