Unless he wants to go or is demanding first team football
It would be mad to move him along.
Solid member of the team, a leader, and, given a short run in the side not impossible for him to regain his first team place.
I doubt we'd get enough money in to get a decent replacement and, from recent seasons it is clear that we'll need good choices at 4th/5th CB, particularly if we're thinking of playing the occasional 5 at the back.
While I think refreshing the squad is going to be important, looking at going into the new season without Stiepermann, for example, does not fill me with confidence. Not because he was going to be a crucial part of the side, but because getting a replacement in and settled is unlikely to be cheap. (I presume with Marco that he wanted to play, and I can't blame him for that).
So maybe we should concentrate on getting a Klose replacement in before we discuss shedding even more of the squad?
