Wayne Rooney did a great piece on this in the Times last Saturday saying "drop Grealish"
He may be an idiot but he knows a lot about footy
In summary: Rooney loves Grealish but wants him on the bench; Germany play a possession game (62% v France, 58% v Portugal; 75% v Hungary) with 3 at the back; they press high up the pitch and their CBS come almost to the half way line; that means their defence is good at coping with players who want it to feet like Grealish; much better to have fast players each side of Kane to run in behind their wing backs/each side of their CBs (especially Hummels who is quite slow); therefore to do this job pick Rashford for sure and then one of Sterling, Saka or Sancho (doesn't mind which, all good); we need three in midfield (not 2 plus a 10 like Grealish); start Henderson ONLY if he's 100%, if nto Bellingham alongside Rice and Phillips; you have to be cautious v Germany; use Foden or Grealish off the bench; it's going to be hard because he think Germany have played two of the best games he's seen this tournament (v Portugal and France).
Makes a lot of sense to me ...

- If we are going to play this formation i'm not sure Rice and Phillips is the right (Other Football) - Jim, Jun 29, 11:47:28
- Suspect he'd like to play Henderson there if he can (n/m) (Other Football) - Tricky Hawes, Jun 29, 11:50:43
- Well, we're not going to play 3 in midfield. (Other Football) - Tricky Hawes, Jun 29, 11:15:37
- Makes sense to adjust the team and the tactics to the opponent, doesn't it? (n/m) (Other Football) - Old Git, Jun 29, 11:18:58
- Oh, sure. I do actually think this is precisely the wrong change though (Other Football) - Tricky Hawes, Jun 29, 11:22:17
- Kroos and Gundogen can be exploited though. Neither particularly defensive. (n/m) (Other Football) - norwaay, Jun 29, 11:31:16

- The idea of playing two fast guys each side of Kane is the main one I think (Other Football) - Old Git, Jun 29, 11:18:18
- only problem with that is that Kane will be 20 yards behind (n/m) (Other Football) - paulg, Jun 29, 11:22:00
- Agree - Rashford has been out of sorts for a while now (Other Football) - jamesward, Jun 29, 11:20:58
