I manage a team of about twenty specialists

It takes about seven years to train so done fully up. (And approx £250k)
But I still encourage those who are ambitious and good to pick up opportunities and move on when they get the chance. It's taken me about six years to put little clusters in place to ensure when someone moves on there's at least two people who can step in, and that we continue to recruit to maintain a steady state.

Keeps things fresh. I've had younger team members leave and be happy to come back (with new skills) at a more senior level
-those who leave widen my network and strengthen the things I can do and offer for my team.

When I hear Webber talk it strikes me that he's applying fairly modern management techniques to a football director role. Broadly, I'd say reports like this are just life. The names we hear mentioned are people with lives, families and ambitions. They'll want to feel like they're progressing. Each year we keep Webber we'll lose others.
