Had there been, I expect the displeasure which is being voiced now would have been matched then...perhaps the club just got away with it at the time.
Completely agree with your last paragraph though, it's time that the club's commercial dept put the club's values before it's bottom line (and likely worked a bit harder to maximise revenues from more appropriate sources).
