It feels a bit like you're blaming your own misfortune on others in a similar position

rather than looking at the criminal lack of funding for mental health support from the government.

Anybody who is unfit to work should be signed off and provided with support. No matter if they're a policemen, a support worker, or whatever other examples you've provided.

Somebody not being "able to hack it", as you say, is a different matter.
