I always liked Sol Campbell

but he seems to have some expectations on his managerial career entitlements that haven't yet been borne out by what he's done. Probably not helped by the fact that Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard all went straight in at a highish level.

(And I have no idea whether he's been rejected for roles for the obvious wrong reasons, and don't want to get into that debate, thank you Essex in advance)

I'd also think that he's not as close to the youth as some would be - the biggest issue I saw with Boothroyd is that the players were coming into the team with modern coaching methods and tactics behind them and meeting a manager who hadn't progressed in similar fashion. And whereas I really doubt that Sol isn't in that league, I'd also question what his experience in developing younger players is - again has he been doing this anywhere or is the managerial experience shown representative of all his coaching roles?

I'd say that the best hire would be someone who is coaching players at a similar level, maybe not at the top of the PL, but who understands how to spot, develop potential and deal with that difficult aspect of aligning it with what they're doing at the clubs so as not to cause friction, but still to create a coherent team at the national level.

And no, I haven't a clue.
