PM: legalistas - what sanctions could actually be imposed
ESL have written to FIFA and UEFA notifying proceedings to block any sanctions. I don't know under what jurisdiction. Do they impose sanctions anyway and wait the n years for m'learned friends to come to a view? What sanctions are available - does anyone know? My own view is kick the lot of them out and ban the players from playing in internationals. I have no idea how legally sound that idea is or if it would fly. Obviously we have no sight of contracts, etc, though terms of membership of Various Things might be public domain. I do think it's important that UEFA, FIFA, FA, EPL etc act *now* and wait to be sued rather than waiting to legally clear action, because this latter route will take a couple of years and the new way of things will have become semi-established by then anyway. It's also not clear to me what standing the broadcasters have in all of this - I can't imagine Sky, BT etc standing still and not getting what they believe they've bought.
