Yep.... Abramovich couldn't say no really (and I still hope this all collapses)
The American owners who feel threatened by the increasing dominance of the PL, the most popular league in the world attracting the best managers and players, and mainly US owned PL clubs like Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool, who's CL qualification is in jeopardy because they are having a poor season. With our CL position by no means certain so we have jumped aboard as well, and Utd very lucky to be 2nd and could easily have been down with Arsenal.
UEFA's CL may have it's faults, but at least it's based on a fundamental principal of qualification through league position. The PL provides real drama with promotion and relegation and European places being decided normally right right till the end of the season. There are few dead fixtures, and most games mean something. There is the added attraction of smaller teams, including teams with not much to play for, upsetting top sides. No game can be taken as a given.
A static, sterile, closed league of top sides would soon become boring, particularly if one team ran away with it, rendering most fixtures irrelevant and pointless. Promoters of the super league are overlooking the fact that people watch games because something is riding on them and there may be a chance of an upset. Take that away and people will switch off in droves.
