I think this board is a lot better than most

If you go on the Pinkun for example, there are threads on there that are a huge number of pages long where the same boring people argue with each other about increasingly banal points.

There is a lot of axe grinding and grudges.

On here, there are occasional flare ups between regular posters, but they disappear off the bottom in less than a day and are generally (although not always) forgotten about.

There are particular posters that are problematic, but not too hard to ignore them.

And equally, discussions that are likely to go in a particular direction, are easily avoided.

Personally I think it's easy to avoid the negative elements of the forum population.
