Worthy's comments were very baffling

ostensibly at least, however, it may be possible that they were not without reason. Perhaps the confidence of the players is so low (paritcularly away from home) that, having bollocked them publicly in the last few away games, he now feels they need a morale boost.

Obviously the performance was poor, albeit preston are a good side with a very good defence, but Worthy's comments do not necessarily indicate what he has said to the players in the dressing room, rather that he would prefer to present a united front, thereby maintaining the respect of his players.

Despite the five home wins, I'm not going to argue we've played well in the last couple of months, because we haven't. Nor, furthermore, are the bumpy away pitches to blame. Rather, while we have the belief that we will win at home, we have no similar belief away from home. With so many poor players and many being played out of position we are understandably struggling.

Worthy is on borrowed time right now and really does need to hit the ground running next season, with a well oiled, confident and most importantly, balanced side (particularly on the right) if he wishes to extend his tenure beyond October.
