I believe there is an element of partisanship going on

NYT reported it first and the other media channels including in the UK just followed.

I've been watching and reading various US based news channels such as CNN, Fox during the election try and get a broad perspective. Needless to say those channels were poles apart with regard to Trump/Biden but were remarkably united in downplaying the Oxford vaccine when it was announced.

There again I don't live in the USofA so could be talking bollocks.
