They admitted it’s deliberate a while back
Not so much that they deliberately give the big teams an easy game but that the tv deals require at least two of the bigger sides to play each other during every round of fixtures except for on the first (and I think last) day which basically means that to make it work all the big sides have to play a small or lower ranked side in the first round of fixtures.
Or something like that. Basically is not random that Liverpool, City and United generally get easy opening gsmes and clubs like us often get harder ones.
