It's a BMW trim level
M-Sport is the most "sporty", and top of the range along with "luxury" which has a similar level of equipment but offers different driving dynamics (softer suspension, etc).
It also impacts suspension and gearbox, depending on which model you're looking at.
M-Sport costs more because more is included.
It's the equivalent of an Audi S-Line in their line up. It has no bearing on the performance of the car (low powered options can be bought in M-sport trim).
