It's such an obvious, stupid lie
Honestly driving somewhere pretty is not the main point here and he might have said "yes we did go to Castle Barnard as part of R+R/give ourselves and a child a break from same four walls, we socially isolated and it helped us mentally" - instead we get the kind of just-obviously-not-true excuse an eleven year old gives when caught nicking stuff at school.
Even I think the Castle Barnard part isn't the main problem here. But if he can't even tell the truth about that why should we believe what he says on the rest?
