I’m surprised about people’s attitude to the refund.
I look at it as if a rich mate asked to borrow a fiver for the cab home as he had an emergency.
I happily lend me the money because he’s rich and has always looked after me (after all he recently rang me up to wish me well in the current crisis) and is a decent and honest individual.
The next day he returns looking dishevelled to tell me that his family emergency actually meant that he was now nearly broke (stock market crash, his house was destroyed and his family murdered all in the same evening) but here’s your fiver back.
My attitude would be that at the moment his need is greater than mine so let’s convert this into an interest free loan which he can repay me when things have evened out (stock market improves, insurance payouts and the murderer caught and in prison).
I would prefer the club had an option of converting the refund into an interest free loan and repaying me when they get out of the current crisis. The money is actually already “dead” to me as i would normally have gone to the games.
Reversing the 1 pound argument - if 20,000 fans say to the club keep the money as a loan as I want you to survive as a business that would give them around £2,000,000 that they don’t need to borrow from commercial lenders as part of the potential £35,000,000 loss this season.
