FAO Knitted Jebus

I think in theory it’s a great idea and something BID might be keen on, but I feel that there may be a shift in the sentiment towards shops. It might just be me but it certainly feels like money is a very worrying concern now for everyone. And it should be a concern.after the 80% wage announcement it certainly lifted the spirits as I am an employer and can give my staff their full wage over the next couple of months. But I really feel that there will be so much emphasis for everyone to keep money for basics and essentials over the next couple of months and it may, just may, seem greedy of us, The Lanes and BID to sort of ask for money through a voucher scheme. Not sure. There will be people who will kindly support it.
One thing I’ve had a lot of this past week is customers coming in and using their credit notes and gift vouchers, basically using them whilst they can. I think in the back of people’s minds is that some businesses will never reopen. We’ll be ok if it’s 1-3 months but there will be quite a few who won’t.
Many businesses in the lanes are not limited companies, lots are self employed folk who won’t qualify for the 80% paye wage cover, however most should receive either of the grants, depending on their Rateable value. There’s also this business interruption loan which is interest free.
I wonder if the “public” will feel like enough has been done for the small retailer already? Not sure.
But listen, thanks for the original message, I love the fact that someone cares enough to think about this. Good luck tomorrow and go report back !
Jonty is your man to speak to regarding Norwich Lanes and Stefan Gurney is the Norwich Bid bloke.
All the best
