IIRC the modelling included some behavioural science aspects

Broadly, if you start lockdown too soon and/or lockdown continues too long then people don't comply.

We have all seen people not complying with the current guidance. I imagine people will not comply with the more stringent lockdown and, as time progresses, we may see people who think the lockdown has gone on too long (if cases start dropping significantly but the models suggest it isn't time to open things up again).

There seems to be a lot of support for more stringent lockdowns / 'too little too late' from some sections of the populace while others don't seem to give a flying f**k.

The lady in my local Sainsbury's today arguing that she needed an exemption from the two item limit because her kids had coronavirus is a good example. How do you legislation for such mind numbing cretinism?
