Foo thoughts on the Ruppster

I'd never heard of him until we signed up. And as far as I'm aware I've never seen him play. Given this, I think I'm well placed to make a definitive judgement on whether this is a good signing or not(!).

1. He's come from a big club that are performing very well. Hoffenheim are currently 7th in the league. They're 3 pts behind Dortmund and only 6 behind Bayern.
2. Apart from the last 2 games, he's been named in the match day squad every time (User Posted Link Yes, he hasn't had many minutes, but he certainly hasnt been cast out and nowhere near the first team.
3. So he's clearly not a muppet as he's been in and around a team/squad that is having a really good season in a tough league.
4. How would we react if we'd purchased someone from Wolves (currently 7th) who had been on their bench 19 out of 20 so far? Okay, maybe not a fair comparison (already used to the prem, maybe Wolves have better players), but you take my point.
5. He's obviously had a bad injury last year, and who knows how that has affected his physical capability. But according to those transfermarkt stats, he's marked injured for 0 games. Which along with the times he's been on the bench suggests that at least he's been fit throughout this season.
6. At 29 we are clearly not buying him to sell for a massive wedge in 2 years time.
7. In terms of cash outlay, if £450k is right, then that is (potentially at least) a tiny amount of money for someone who has been around the squad of a team mounting a serious challenge for a Champions League place. Just what would it cost to repeat this with a prem player?
8. Given that he's been a fringe player at a club that, the evidence surely tells us, has considerably better players than we do on average, we can't rule out that he will be an improvement over what we have in the squad right now, once he acclimatises. And if we lose a couple in the summer, well, same argument applies even more so.

I mean who knows. Maybe he's total dogs**t and is set to become a laughing stock, a club anti-legend in the mould of Dean Coney or Yanic Wildschut (7m, cough cough). But now i've got over the initial "meh", there might be more logic to this than meets the eye.

Let's see, give the bloke a chance?
