Foo thoughts on yesdee

Another great effort. Conceding late was another kick in the nuts. But I’m getting used to it and somehow this one didn’t feel that painful.

We played well and we’re unlucky that we couldn’t get the second. I get the whole “you make your own luck” argument, but the tiniest of margins were involved. A few millimetres the other way a couple of times and we win that game 2-0 and Palace could have had zero complaints.

So yeah, despite the league position, so proud of the club and what we’ve put together on an absolute shoestring. Well done to Farke and Webber. Top work.

Now, I still stand by what i posted yesterday about subs. Having reflected further, closing out the game was about one thing. Having enough energy left to be able to gang up on Zaha, something that we did magnificently through the whole game. Apart from one time, from which they scored. We just didn’t have the legs to get enough bodies around Zaha to block him up, and Aarons, who had a GREAT game was left too exposed. Goal. What a player Zaha is though. Quite the talent. Take him out of Palace and they won’t offer much.

If only we had fresh legs on, with instructions to help Max vs Zaha. Personally, and this isn’t just hindsight, I would have made subs on 70. Would have thrown on both Trybull and Amadou with one given instructions to take over from Tettey and the other to stay close to wherever Zaha was.

When Pukki came off, should have stuck Idah on. He looks big and he looks quick. Strieps has no pace, and did nothing upfront. Idah might have been the closest substitute to Pukki who plays such an important role. I guess Pukki had a knock, otherwise taking him off seemed a very costly mistake.

Given some of the away games we’ve got against big clubs we are surely down now, but nothing will stop me loving this squad and the football they play. Looking ahead to next season in the Champs, feels to me like there are two players that we would struggle to replace. Buendia who makes most of our chances. And Pukki who scores most of our goals. We have some other fantastic players, but those are the key two. If we keep both, we will destroy the champs next season. Keep one and we’ll do well if we sign well. Lose both and we’ll need to recruit amazingly bloody well to replace all those goals.

I think we all need a boost now. Need Webber to bring in someone with an eye on next season who can hopefully really add something now too. Maybe the reason why Farke is slow on subs is because he doesn’t feel he has players that can keep the level up. Be nice to give him a genuine extra option or two.
