You only get so many chances to score in the Premier League. Norwich created a hatful of opportunities in their relegation six-pointer against Aston Villa on Boxing Day but failed to score despite 16 shots. With the worst defence in the league, Daniel Farke’s men are far too dependent on Teemu Pukki to fire them out of trouble.

One goal in his past five shows the Finn’s output is drying up when Norwich need it most. Luck also appears to be against the Canaries, with a millimetre-tight VAR offside ruling out a Pukki goal that would have seen them go 2-0 up against Tottenham on Saturday. Leads were twice thrown away in an eventual 2-2 draw with Jose Mourinho's men.

Now past the midway point in the season and six points from safety, last season’s Championship winners must get it together quickly or find themselves cut adrift.

In Crystal Palace, Norwich face a side who sit ninth in the table despite netting three goals fewer than them (18 compared to 21). The difference is the Eagles’ mean defence – the fourth-best in the division, behind only Liverpool, Leicester and Sheffield United. They have lost just one of their last seven despite a lengthy injury list.

But if Norwich are to extend their stay in the top flight, this is the sort of game they must start winning. Farke will be praying his men finally start finding their range at Carrow Road.
