When I was at school there were always English Electric Lightnings
(From Coltishall), Gloucester Javelins, De Havilland Chipmunks & DC3 Dakotas (from Norwich), F111's (from Lakenheath), Phantoms & Buccaneers (from Honningham) filling the sky, with the occasional sightings of Handley Page Victors & Avro Vulcans (from Marham). Plus on any trip to a Norfolk beach you were guaranteed a wave from the crew of the Air-Sea Rescue Wessex helicopter crew flying past.
Air displays were annual events at all RAF & USAAF bases.
