I guess you are refering to the commonwealth games
and England have won a gold medal ,the national anthem is for the U.K/GB (not sure which one could be for both) you will find that Scotland,Wales & N Ireland will have their own tune as well ,just like in the football/rugby (scotland have flower of scotland)
Why England continue to have the national anthem before football internationals is best answered by the FA (do the england rugby play the national anthem)
