Well this is a great day for our country
Had the SC ruled the other way, then this was basically laying down the tracks along which a would be dictator would run. If Boris and Dom had been allowed to do this, then what next? It would have set such a dangerous precedent, not just for now, but for any future government that was running out of road but was determined to cling on.
The thing is, I suspect ultimately this is a temporary set back for Boris prior to a huge victory. A quick look at the polls and (confirmed anecdotally by watching QT recently) suggests that a large proportion of this country seem to think Boris is doing a great job, and if he needs to shut down parliament (or ignore the SC) or whatever to get Brexit through so be it. We just need to "get it done" and "crash out" so we can "put all this behind us and move on". (As if the next decade wouldnt be taken up sorting out new arrangements and the mess of Brexit...).
With Corbyn presiding over a s**t show the only rational expectation is that there will now be a delay to Brexit (probably brokered by a temporary one issue Govt led by Yvette Cooper or someone like that) then a GE at which Boris will be returned as PM with a majority. He will then force through a destructive Brexit to the delight of the ERG, after which he will set about dismantling the welfare state and a wide range of democratic institutions, with the full permission of a sizable minority of this country, backed by a new cohort of rabid right wing MPs.
I hate to be all pessimistic, but honestly, this country is full of turkeys voting for Christmas.
