Arbitrage in other words

It's unlikely to occur very often with the usual bookies, but I can imagine that by comparing, say, football odds with a UK bookie against odds with a European bookie might throw up the occasional anomaly, although with international prices available at the touch of button, it's doubtful whether that occurs with any profitable frequency. I imagine the betting exchanges offer more opportunities because there's a lot of amatures laying odds that don't have the resources and know-how of the bookies. As SuperYellows points out though, it's doubtful whether you can every really make that much and whether any profit outweighs the cost in time and effort.

An ex-colleague of mine had the notion to write an arbitrage seeker application that would trawl prices and flag any arbitrages. So far as I know he's still doing his day job ...
