I guess they're hoping to go the way of the FT

Which is the only newspaper that has made the pay wall work.

Need to go niche, in depth and have quality content.

Difference with the FT was that it already had a reputation and dedicated readership.

It'll be interesting to see what offers the athletic will do to let people try before they buy.

If the content is good and the price is right it could work.

But the content will have to be really strong... There's probably a market for really good and incisive comment, reports and analysis. Less so for exclusives (likely to be gazumped by twitter...).

Can't see myself subscribing anytime soon, but I do love magazines, so... Who knows.?
