I just read that as

frustration that he had underperformed. He was muttering to himself but DF called him over and they high-5'd/fist-bumped/whatever it is they did - I didn't read much more into it than than frustration with himself

He tried a few things that didn't come off, I get that. I saw Onel and Jamal having a similar semi-heated conversation. Inevitable as they ramp up but hopefully ironed out as we move into the season proper.
