However, this is a football message board and as far as other issues go most people only react to what’s on here rather than the wider world. When someone brings it in, then debates happen. There just isn’t the time, space or will to chat about every single issue.

Unless you’re saying that we’re deliberately avoiding the issue because the protesters are Muslim, then that’s a different issue. I trained as a teacher in Birmingham, and one of my placements was in a 98% Muslim school, at the time of the Salman Rushdie fatwa, so I do know a little bit about being among those sensibilities. FWIW I don’t think it’s being avoided, I just think it’s a long way from a lot of people on here and they don’t feel knowledgeable enough to comment. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. LGBTQ rights are a bit closer to home, for many reasons, so it’s easier to voice opinions.
